No application fee for simply starting an application! The Global Learning Application fee is charged only once you are committed to your program and the application deadline has passed.

Depending on your program type you may have a non-WSU application to complete as well.

Program Description:

Contest Information

The annual IP-Global Learning Photo Contest is designed to encourage returned education abroad participants to share their experience abroad with the WSU community. All WSU students who have studied abroad in the last year are encouraged to enter!

This contest is a way for you to showcase your time abroad, as well as providing WSU amazing photos for a variety of uses, such as posters, social media, website images, and in other formats.

Contest Rules, Selection Criteria, and Information:
  • Students may submit one entry per contest categories - see below for categories and descriptions.
  • Photos with a completed application are judged by a panel of judges within International Programs to find the top five photos in each category.
    • Criteria used will include the quality of the image itself, the explanation provided with the photo, and its relation to the category of submission.
  • Finalists will have their photos displayed for WSU students, faculty, and others to vote for their favorites (via online social media, or printed displays on campus).
  • Winning photos will be printed, framed and given to contestants after display on campus through spring semester. 
  • All winners will be notified by email, and be featured in the International Programs Newsletter.
  • Please read all signature documents regarding the use and rights associated with your image and the contest parameters.

Contest Categories:
  1. Landmarks and Landscapes: Photographs of you discovering natural or urban landmarks, architecture or landscapes.
  2. Living Like a Local: Photographs showing your immersion into your host culture. Examples might include traditions, people, festivals, sports, dress or other activities relevant to the host culture.
  3. Cougar Pride Goes Global: Photographs of you showing off your Cougar pride (clothes, gear, the flag, etc).
  4. Educational Moments: Photographs highlighting an educational setting - either inside or outside the classroom.  Examples might include classrooms, excursions, field trips, tours, internships or service projects.
  5. Windows to the World: Photographs that showcase your creative vision, or capture one thing you wish others to know about your experience. 

 
 

Submission Instructions

Please read all instructions carefully.
Your submission may not be judged if the submission is considered incomplete or done incorrectly.

Contest Requirements and Submission Instructions:
 
  • Only one entry per category is allowed.
    • You will submit one application that will house any category submission- no need to do multiple applications. 
  • File Name: Files MUST be labeled in this manner: Last Name.Country(where photo was taken).Category Number
    • Meyer.Japan.2.jpg  =  Category 2 submission for Ms. Meyer who took the photo in Japan
    • Smith.France.1.jpg = Category 1 submission for Mr. Smith who took the photo in France
  • Image Requirements: Images MUST be 2MB or Less and have a resolution of at least 240dpi.
  • Image description will also be required. This can be short, but should give the viewer a bit of background on the image.
    • Example: While on holiday in Frankfurt, Germany, I snapped this shot of dancers performing at the annual Christkindlmarkt. This is a Christmas market where people can eat delicious food, shop for presents, and also take part in German traditional dances in this open air marketplace.
