THE PROGRAM
Spend four weeks in Japan exploring traditional and contemporary design in 7 cities and earn 6 credits. Each city has been selected based on its distinctive architecture, history, culture, art, landscape and lifestyle. Students will stay in different types of accommodations, both traditional and contemporary, to gain a better understanding of Japanese lifestyles, which will help students to understand function and symbols of architectural space in Japan. There will be organized guest lectures and tours. Transportation will be primarily train and foot. Assignments will focus on having each student map his/her experience visually in order to help students to understand the experience of Japanese architecture from different perspectives.

The on-line application consists of three phases. The initial phase is the application phase where you will be required to read and sign multiple signature documents, complete questionnaires and deliver material submissions to Bryan Hall, Room 101. Your application will be reviewed and submitted to the Faculty Director. The Faculty Director will determine if your application meets the minimum requirements for acceptance into the program. You will be moved into the acceptance phase of the on-line application. You will be asked to commit to participating on the program. If you do not commit to the program by the application deadline your application will be withdrawn and your placement in the program will be offered to the next student. If you choose to commit you are agreeing to the costs associated with the program as outlined in the budget sheets of the application and on the promotional flyer.
Please Note: Faculty-led programs are dependant upon a minimum number of applicants in order to run. After the final application deadline we will notify you if we have received enough applicants for the program to run and announce the final costs and billing schedule.
